Remove the password from a bank statement PDF

Unlock your password-protected PDF files online for free with smallpdf.tools

Banks and card providers often protect statement PDFs with a password. If you know the password, upload your statement above to save a copy without it.

Why unlock your own statement

Mortgage brokers, letting agents, visa applications and accountants often ask for several months of statements. Many upload forms reject password-protected files, and you can't merge protected statements into one PDF.

Removing the password once means you don't have to type it every time you open, print or send the file.

Finding the password

The password is usually explained in the email or the online banking page the statement came from. Common patterns include your date of birth, part of your customer number, or a combination of both.

If you can't find it, check your bank's help pages or contact them. Only the bank can tell you the password for their statements.

After unlocking

  • Merge several months into one file with Merge PDF if the request asks for a single document.
  • Store the unlocked copy in a secure folder, because anyone with the file can now open it.
  • If you are emailing it, consider adding your own password with Protect PDF and sending the password separately.
