Merge PDFs for a visa application

Merge multiple PDF files into a single document online for free with smallpdf.tools

Visa portals and embassies often ask you to upload supporting documents as one PDF, or one PDF per category. Add your files above, put them in order and download a single document.

A sensible order

Always follow the checklist from the embassy or visa portal first. If it doesn't set an order, this layout is easy for a caseworker to follow:

  • Cover letter explaining your trip
  • Passport photo page and previous visas
  • Proof of employment or study, such as an employer letter
  • Bank statements, oldest month first
  • Travel and accommodation bookings
  • Invitation letters and any other supporting documents

Prepare each file first

  • Unlock password-protected bank statements with Unlock PDF, because locked files can't be merged.
  • Rotate sideways scans with Rotate PDF.
  • Name files with numbers, such as 01-cover-letter.pdf, so they load in order.

Watch the size limit

Visa portals often limit each upload to between 2MB and 10MB. Several months of statements and colour scans can go over that. Compress the merged file with Compress PDF and check every page is still readable, especially stamps and signatures.

Questions

Should I merge everything into one file?

Only if the portal asks for a single file. Some portals have separate upload slots for each type of document.

Are my documents kept?

No. Files are deleted from our server one hour after processing. Keep your own copies of everything you submit.
