Compress a PDF to 200KB

Reduce the size of your PDF files online for free with smallpdf.tools

200KB is a common limit on application forms for identity documents, certificates and signed declarations. Upload your PDF above and compress it, then check the size before you submit.

What fits in 200KB

Most text documents of up to 10 pages fit comfortably once compressed.

A single scanned page or a phone photo of a document normally fits after strong compression, especially in grayscale.

Two or three scanned pages can fit if they are mostly text on a white background. Pages with photos, stamps in colour or dark backgrounds take more space.

If it is still over 200KB

  • Try the next stronger compression level instead of compressing the same file twice.
  • Use Grayscale PDF on colour scans before compressing.
  • Crop phone photos so the page fills the frame. Table edges and shadows add data without adding anything useful.
  • Split the document with Extract PDF Pages if the form accepts several files.

Common documents people shrink to 200KB

Passport and ID scans, proof of address, degree certificates, signed declarations and payslips. For identity documents, check the photo and the machine-readable lines at the bottom are still sharp after compressing, because some checks read them automatically.

Questions

Does compressing change my document?

The wording, layout and page order stay the same. Only images inside the file are stored more efficiently.

Is it safe to upload ID documents?

Files are sent over HTTPS, used only to compress them and deleted from our server one hour after processing.
